If you’re considering adding some recreational space to your property, you can’t go wrong with a concrete basketball court installed by Taylor Tennis Courts. If you’re limited on space, a half-size court in the backyard or driveway is a great plan too, and will provide just as much fun for the kids.
Recent studies have shown that children are engaging in more screen time than ever these days, and it’s causing all kinds of problems.
There’s a direct link between the time kids spend playing video games and watching TV and their risk of having weight problems. Being glued to a screen for many hours a day also impacts their sleep cycles, metabolism, and immune system. There’s evidence that kids do worse in school and social situations when they have more than two hours per day of screen time.
Some research from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) called The Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study® shows that brain development is affected by how much time kids spend watching shows or playing games on their screens. Too much screen time often results in lower critical thinking and reasoning abilities due to a thinning brain cortex.
Getting kids out of the house, even if it’s just for a pickup game with dad or to practice their lay-ups, has significant benefits to their physical and mental well-being. Having more daily physical activity and getting outside for a while can prevent many of the negative impacts we see because of their excessive iPad and Smartphone use.
Incorporating just 30 minutes of outdoor physical activity into a child’s daily routine will not only improve their physical health – but will also increase their sensory, motor, and social skills, cognitive development, and self-confidence.
